Moles grow normally over time. Believe me, I have them, Mom has them, they run in families. Unless the mole has IRREGULAR edges, has changed consistency, like has gotten softer, or is multi-colored, it is nothing more then a mole & very unlikely to be cancerous.
Unfortunately the only way to stop the growth is removal & then you have to have a good professional to make sure to get the roots, otherwise it grows back. They will grow even more during pregnancy in women again when hormones are surging.
BUT...due caution, make SURE you ASK your dermatologist if ANY scar will be left, if so, have a plastic surgeon do the removal. My mother had 5 taken off, all cut, & by dermatologists & they all were done nicely, one thin line scars that completely disappeared over time.
I had one done by a dermatologists on the side of the nose, he burned it off. At 33 he said naturally the skin would heal & fill itself in. It never did, so I have a circular type indentation there, similar to a immunization mark. So be careful in the physician you choose AND the removal method chosen.

Just because a mole is growing does not necessarily mean it is cancerous. The best thing to do though is to go see a doctor, and have them look at it. Generally, they will cut it off (very little pain), then send it to the lab to get tested. Any time a mole changes color, height, shape or size, you should have a dermatologist check it out just to be on the safe side.

I would have it checked out to be safe, but I have had moles pop up all the time. What you need to look for is discoloration, like if it turns black on one side and stays brown on the other, or irregularities in shape. If its jaggedy then I would get it checked out right away. Those are the first signs of a cancerous mole.

Most moles can be removed by a doctor, in a simple out-patient procedure. Even if you decide not to have it removed, definitely show it to your doctor, especially if it seems larger than before.
