to gain levels, and to ask questions. It takes points to aske questions, and you get points for answering questions, the more points you have the higher your level, the higher the level, the more questions you can ask and answer.

There's really no incentive in having them, it's just like an incentive to use this place instead of other message boards. I mean there's a whole bunch of Q+A sites out there but this is the only one I've run across with a point system.

It just an indicator of how much you helped others with their problems. I am at level 7, with 26,611 points, but they aren't worth anything monetarily.
