McCain is an American hero. Being a Republican (or a Democrat) does not mean rolling over and being your party's lapdog. I'm about to switch my party membership from GOP to Dem because my pro-environment, pro-free-speech views aren't settling too well with the Republicans, but I'm more than happy to annoy the Dems' mindless rank-and-file by the fact that I'm pro-life and pro-gun. I think it was Winston Churchill who said that we have way too many politicians and not enough statesmen. McCain is a statesman. I admire the guy more than I do anyone else in Washington.

McCain is what he is. Like Bush and most of the republican ruling class they have forgotten conservative principals and as a result have lost support of a good many registered as republicans. As far as I am concerend McCain and Bush are the same thing, bad for America.

No, I think McCain was only a republican because republican were winning. I never liked him and he has shown he cannot be trusted. He is good for the democrats. Many Republicans don't care for him, and I am one of them.

No: he just spoke out against him. That is not being a traitor. Our society encourages speaking for what is right, not just following the leader.

Absolutely not. We need more independent-minded people like him in both major parties that are willing to do what they believe is right as opposed to simply following the party line.
