If you look at a standard ruler, the lines mark off increments of 1/16". Half the distance between two of the lines is 1/32". So 3/32" is right between the first and second lines on your ruler.

Actually, that's the length of the blank area on a penny between the edge of the penny and the top of abraham lincolns head (car mechanics use pennies to test tire tread depth, that's why I know this).
