Well, for one thing join a group in your community or at school doing something that you enjoy. It could be fashion, music, photography, recipes/cooking...etc. For example, I am 25 and I am joining a group at night at the local highschool for photography. It is something that I am interested in and interested in learning about. Naturally, I will meet people that I have something in common with that I can talk to, and eventually if I want to, make friends with. I am a quiet person too, and when I was in school felt the same way as you. School is very different than when you are all grown up like me. But still getting involved in volunteering and groups that you are interested in will help you make friends. Good luck!

It depends, I suppose.
But I would think that if you are looking to make friends, you should steer clear of people who would care about how you dress. Find people with similar interests as you. I've found the best way for people to do this is to join a club at school or something. That way you are in a big group of people who share the same hobby or interest, and it's very easy to make conversation.
If you like sports, join a team. There is a great deal of comraderie when it comes to sports and whatnot.
Good luck! [=

I'm quiet too..
You can ask for help or ask a question in class and then say "My name is ____ by the way" and you should try to get to know the people that sit next to you.

Find something in common with that other person, like if you know about cars or movies, it's easy to strike up a conversation.

I just kinda talk about the moment..and kinda say "whatta you think?" after it. Then I liken it to another moment like it in my life and then say "has that ever happened to you?"
It's about making a common connection and inviting them to join.
