After having this problem, I uninstalled Norton and still facing the same problem. Although I am able to terminate users process only. Cannot terminate Local Service, Network Service, or System....I have a user account with the administration access.

Someone please tell me how to get this acess back in detail. Thank you very much.

Three months ago I had my computer engineer remove Windows 2000 Server NT Technology an install Windows XP Prof. (I liked the 2000 server as it was very secure & required very little patches from Microsoft). The only problem is there is not much software out there that supports 2000 Server.

My engineer was not paying attention to me when I told him under no circumstance install Nortons Suite. I use Twister Anti-Trojan Virus from Beijing, China. www. filseclab.com

Not paying attention he installed Nortons which is the very worse crap in the world. I had prior experience with Norton when I was not all that smart about antivirus systems. I removed the program. And when I ran my Twister, I kept seeing the scan showing "symantec", in my applications.

I had the exact same problem that you have. Took three months to clean up the mess that Nortons Suite made.

I used Registry First Aid an it removed 203 fragments of Nortons last week. An I thought my problems were solved. Just today Twister found another 73 fragments of Nortons.

Norton will destroy your entire system. I had the same problem as you. Resolved the problem by getting almost 300 fragments left behind when Nortons was removed.

Nortons knows it is garbage so they make it almost impossile for you to remove. And when you do remove they leave you with this big mess for you to clean up.

Go to start, run and type in c://program files, hit browse, hit documents & settings, hit all users, hit applications and settings.

You open all of them. When you open applications and settings you should see "Symantec". Remove the file. If this does not work then you can download from www.rosecitysoftware.com -- their Registry First Aid. You can try it out for 15 or 30 days.

Run check the registry for errors. And delete all errors that are green with a check mark. Then run search for errors. Here you must type in at the top, nortons & add, symantec & add. Then run and delete the entire mess.

If you don't want to purchase RFA, just remove it when it has cleaned up all the mess for you. As you have atleast 15 or 30 days to test out the program before you have to purchase.

Good luck, and stay away from Nortons.

at first, u dont have to terminate any propcess of the System, Local Service or Network Service. this is not recommended.
svchost might shut down ur computer if yuo terminate them.
well. to answer your question, in case if you want to terminate any of those sited processes. try to END PROCESS TREE. and wait for a min. if this doesnt work, it means u have an active virus in yuor system. only Virus can do thi. I suggest you scan and clean the viruses. and if this doesnt work. u have to FORMAT your PC. because in windows Task Manager u should have control to terminate any program or process or end User. especially u said u are Administrator

Cant shut down what windows is using to run. Viruses will run this way too. Same as you cant delete a program if the program is running. With more info I may be able to help you, but you dont want to just start cutting stuff off like that. Maybe go to Start, run, msconfig, go to the startup menu and see whats loading when ur pc starts

I dont know sometimes that happens to me..Never close that SVhost thing, it will shut down your computer... Ive figured out that files used by windows ususally do not have clashing letters or capital letters...Sometimes I will close those other files and they will open back up. IF I know they arent essential for windows I will search for the file, close it in the task manager and then delete the file..
