I believe that this is when someone becomes brain dead for a short period of time, thus being counted as actually deceased for that time.
Then, after this short period of time, they are revived and they will typically describe what they experienced during the time that they feel that they have died.
Oftentimes this is comprised of a 'floating' sensation where they leave their body and experience the events going on around them in detail. They will typically describe the comments made as they were watching medical staff work on them, or family members watching nearby.
Sometimes they will explain that they experienced a dark tunnel and a bright light at the end along with deceased loved ones waiting for them in the tunnel or at the end.
Then they will sometimes (and I believe that this is even rarer) be told by the loved ones that it is not their time and that they will be seen again later, but now they must go back.
Most of the time, the people who experience these situations feel very light and very calm, almost serenely happy. I've read many stories of the aftereffects, such as a person who now turns their life around, becomes a better person, and feels a strong inner peace.
Hope this helps.
Love as always,
Sebastian

I was on a mini-van in Turkey once. It's like a little bus, with two doors - a set at the front and towards the back. We had just left Bakirkoy on the E-5 (major highway - infamous for bad drivers and congestion).
The mini-van (called a dolmus) was not crowded that day, but I was the only one standing. The driver swerved suddenly and I lurched toward the open door. I was caught at the very last second by some guy sitting near the door. Had it not been for him, I'd have been flung out the bus onto a very busy highway. I'd have been toast.
I was also in the middle of a 7.4 earthquake later that year. Kinda feel like a martini afterwards - shaken, not stirred...

When you are about to die and life flashes past you and you can see a light at the end of the tunnel. I got it once when I nearly drowned at 7. Terrible experience I tell you

Have you ever had an experience where you crapped your pants?
That would rank up there in the near death catagory.
