Wow, these are some of the most uneducated answers I've ever heard. I truly appreciate the perosn saying that most americans aren't willing to stand up for what they believe in. After serving a long career in the military, you can be GD sure I DO stand up for what I believe in. Here is the deal, who cares about little mom and pop stores? Mom and pop, right? America is about free will. If the people that proclaim the ywould never shop for cheap $%!@ at wal-mart want to spend their money at some more expensive mom and pop, then let them.
But, when the mom and pop and specialty stores charge 10, 20 or 30% more than wal-mart, it becomes a simple matter of economics.
And NO, everyone refusing to shop at wal-mart would NOT correct the problem. Then what happens is the next smaller store down the line replaces wal-mart. Hasn't anybody ever seen that episode of South Park?
We give wal-mart the power, because wal-mart meets our needs. It's just plain stupidity to buy an item for such a high mark-up, just because it supports some neighborhood store. America has evolved, and consumers along with it. If smaller stores want to stay in business, then they need to evolve too!

The poor work there ,the poor shop there. Its a self-fulfilling prophecy.I tend to think of wal marts as Embassies of third world countries, and communist Nations.Walmart does over 50 billion a year in sales from china to America alone. When Americans lost interest in its Unions this set the stage for all the other unfair labor practices in America and around the world. Its ironic when you are poor you shop there, there by ensuring the poorness of all the others walmart exploits to bring you low prices.

You must live in a larger city where you have choices about where to shop, and you must make more than minimum wage. If you lived in a small town and made $5.50 an hour, you would shop at Wal-Mart too. It is easy to point fingers and ask people to take the blame for things that are clearly not their fault. Why are people poor when they are working their asses off? This is a good question, but not one we would direct to those who are poor. Maybe you need to ask your republican leaders, who have consistently shown that they care little for the working poor (ie, high healthcare costs, a minimum wage that adds up to an annual salary of $11,440, to name a few.) Once again, your ignorance and ethnocentrism is showing. Grow up and look beyond the tip of your own nose.

Because its cheap, everybody looks out for their own interests.

Do you care if someone who you do NOT know is earning 6.75 an hour? doubt it...

now multiply it by 75% of the country's population and you got a good estimate of how many people continue to shop at wal-mart without giving a damn

They love the exploitation of workers They want to be exploited themselves for a stronger america. I never would have believed it until I posted a question concerning china. (below) They defended the Chinese communist's and their use of prison labor in their factories. They think thats what made China into a great superpower. I guess they think we should imitate them now.
I really didn't believe it, but take a look for yourself.
I'm still waiting for a good answer.

Some folks care about the bottom line only. This goes across both party lines. I won't shop there and I'm republican, but I have a liberal friend who could care less, they save money and that is what is most important.

Because Americans would rather save their own wallet than their fellow man.

When ever America stood up for what is right, things got ugly, Sometimes very bloody as well.

Today's people just haven't got what it takes to stand up for themselves and simply say NO.

If everyone stopped using Walmart it would put them out of business. (I mean to not even take anything for free) Just don't go there!!!

Then all of the other stores would be able to come back and they would also have learned from the Walmart experience and take care of the employees.

I shop ANYWHERE else but WalMart. It takes a little more work but I watch the sale circulars at other stores, department and grocery, I don't spend any more. You can get more for your money at WalMart, but I care more about quality.
