Unfortunately the answer to your question is yes, hazing happens. Is it illegal? Yes. Most time the hazing involves dumb and dangerous pranks or heavy drinking. As a former college administrator, I saw lots of students in fraternities, sororities and college athletes go to the hospital due to alcohol poisoning. I worked at a smaller college yet I had a girl in a coma for 2 days due to alcohol intoxication. I had another student in a fraternity who was dared to walk to the airport in his underware in the middle of the night while beyond drunk. He was luckily picked up by the police and returned to his dorm. I wish these events didn't happen but they do. I don't disagee with the soroity or fraternity system, but if you want to join just be yourself and be careful. Don't do things you don't want to and if that isn't okay with the older members then maybe you don't want to be a part of that group.

Yes. The college in my town started back last week, and hazing is the only explanation I have for why I saw a guy wearing a toga walking around.

Most, if not all, universities have policies against hazing or initiation. However, these policies are not always enforced.
It's probably safe to say that they're not technically allowed to do it, but many still do.

It's hard to say because there are so many policies against it at a lot of schools, but I'm pretty sure it still happens. Binge drinking is a really common one that definitely still happens.

Some do, most do not. Actually, sororities, being innately conservative, are much more likely to practice some form of hazing.
