Because we love our vehicles, we love to drive, and to us it's not really the cost, it's the amount the price has risen in a relatively short amount of time. Would you complain if the price of petrol would double what it is right now in the UK ? The media is to blame also because they only portray consumers at the pump saying that you have to have it when asked about the price. I believe that the price is being minipilated by persons unknown, and too powerful for the media and the general public to touch. Did you see Exxon Mobile profit for the last quarter. Could it be a conspiracy by opec to punish the American, or by greedy stockbrokers. Don't point fingers unless you do all the research first.

It's oil prices have rocketed mainly due to the recent Middle-eastern trouble.
Oil is also a non-renewable resource and America is considered to be a high consumer of this resource, not to mention polluter.
Saudi Arabia has Billions of dollars invested into America which means the gasoline prices are usually a lot cheaper than they are in Europe.

I live in the UK and the prices are about 98p per litre. I was in Canada recently and the prices were half that! Why the hell are they all complaining so much? Anyway, Americans should pay more because they are the ones with the massive cars, putting all the carbon dioxide into the atmosphere!

I guess Americans just don't want to pay that much for gas because we've taken low prices for granted for so long. I mean, even with the high prices, it still is one of the cheapest liquids you can get by the gallon. And yeah, prices are a lot worse in the UK and New Zeland (when I visited). Don't they go by liter instead of gallon? If so it can get pretty expensive.

I have news for you. The price of gas is roughly the same in the U.S. as it is anywhere else in the world. Oil is purchased through world markets. The difference is that the people in the UK and elsewhere in Europe choose to tax gasoline at astronomical rates in order to pay for social programs such as health care. The price of gas in the U.S. is relative to our society not that of the UK.

They're not used to paying alot like we do in Europe and they all have these huge petrol guzzling cars instead of little economic hatchbacks and minis like we do! Unfortunately (and I do know that alot of Americans realise this) things are going to have to change radically. Oil is becoming a more valuable and costly commodity and therefore we are all going to have to pay more and it is those who have benefitted the most who will suffer the most!

because the cost of gas has nearly tripled in 2 years for the only reason that most of can see is corruption at the highest level in the white house. Our oil companies are intentionally gouging us with no consequences. The are make billion dollar profits at the expense of the American economy. My question is how profitable does one company actually need to be. I understand they need to make money but lets get real.

the price doubled almost over night . . .
anyone who is used to a thing costing a certain amount and has budgeted for that amount will be shocked if it doubles. . .
i'm sure there are things in the us that are twice the cost of what they are in the UK and Europe. (like health care)

I have found that Americans complain about the cost of everything. They believe that everything should be dirt cheap & be of unlimited availability to them. I am a Canadian & although gas, (petrol), is expensive in Ontario it is cheaper than in the Yukon Territory or in Europe. We complain about the prices as well, but, we also apologize for complaining.
