I would have to say that you could start in Greece (Thessaly) in 200bc and follow the course of a family line over the 2000 + years to end in Athens in 2001

Your novel could begin on the day you start writing it and go back ward as flashbacks, even to a previous life and so on. There is great potential in this because you can write many different stories that would take place many different countries, and it could even get to be a trilogy or more... It all depends on your motivation and passion to write.You can include all those places and dates and get your readers hooked in a matter of a few pages if you are careful about the beginning... Think about it dear heart. I understand this is not really an answer to your question but it may give you additional ideas.
