my cd rom reads and everything but its not hooked up and i dont know where the cables go. can anyone please help me?

The flat ribbon cable coming out of the back on the cd rom connects to the motherboard via an open IDE slot. Orient the ribbon so that the red (or other colored edge is toward the 1 pin on the slot.

Another cable coming from the cdrom in an audio connector that extends from the back of the cdrom to a connection on the sound card or the motherboard (for integrated sound)

Modern CD drives just use the flat ribbon cable for the data / music. If you are reading data from the CD, & it is seen in Wnidows Explorer, then it is probably OK.

Otherwise, if it is not working, connect it like you see your hard drives.

The small 3-4 wire connector is not needed.
