Yes, when you go to some restaurants the have tanks with fish, and cages with kittens and puppies. You can choose the one you want for dinner. Seriously, I know it sound crazy for people in other parts of the world. If you visit China, leave Fido at home.

Yeah it's true. To Stephanie - are you sure you haven't seen it before? I guess you don't get out often. Even in Beijing you can find places that sell it, but yes it's not that common.
It's probably one of the most tender meats I've eaten. But I can only take a mouthful or 2 cos the taste reminds me of the smell of a wet dog.
The way that I've heard dogs "prepared" is the most sickening part - they beat the dog while it is alive, and you can hear it yelping in pain and terror. And then finally you hear its death knell.
At first I didn't believe one of my foreigner friends when he told me that. He said that killing a dog this way makes their meat tender. But then one day I ate with the manager of a hotel in one of the VIP rooms. The room was near the kitchen and the door was open at the time. I could hear the yelping of the dog and a shiver went down my spine when I realised that what my friend said was true.
It's sickening to think that dogs are killed for consumption that way. I have no issues with people eating dog, since different cultures eat different animals. But we should at least use more humane ways of killing them first.
I just hope that death by beating is a very rare occurrence.

It wasn't so long ago when people were catching mice for meat pies and feeding them delicacies to fatten them to roast... yeah, mice in England, France and Italy... so I heard! So, if some people eat dogs (I heard it was in Korea... could be in some provinces of China, too... who really knows?) so what? Some people also eat cats and squirrels (cousins to rats).
Haven't you heard that people eat ants and grubs and fried spiders and grasshoppers...?
In the Philippines they do not eat dogs or cats! They eat a lot of pork and a lot of rice.. and breadfruit and bananas and other fruits but, no, they do NOT eat cats or dogs or insects or bugs!
Is it any better than cannibalism?

We had some friends who just came back from China - one of the photos they had was of dog carcasses for sale as food.
It isn't wrong for them. Here we would be much more likely to eat a rabbit, but they keep bunnies for pets and eat dogs. It isn't wrong, it is just different.
As for those who want to make a law against it. What would you think if India sponsored an international law to prevent us from eating beef?

Supposedly its a delicacy in all those Southeastern Asian countries - yummy! And let's not forget our friends south of the border, they not only eat dogs, they eat rats and anything that has a little meat on its bones - they just put it in their tacos and have at it.

yes they do but thats no different than eating chicken, just because you were raised to eat one type of food and not another dont mean that its wrong to eat what you were taught not to eat.if you were taught not to eat chicken you would feel the same way about not eating chicken that you feel about not eating dogs.
