Our dogs are part of the family. They're "kids" to us. My lil Dachshund/Chihuahua is spoiled. She answers to "baby" even though that's not her name. She has ssoooo much love to give. Her fave thing to do is hug. You never have a bad day with her around. She's a laugh, a comfort, a companion and so much more. The other dog is my daughter's. She's quite attached to me since I'm the one home all day long. Both follow me where ever I go. I can truly say, I'm never alone.
It's easy to understand why some elderly care centers have animal visit days. They can really make you feel good and loved. My Dad has a dog that makes sure he doesn't sleep too long (Dad has a very bad heart). I think they keep each other going in some ways.

My cat is codependent, and I am her enabler.
She certainly wants me around, as she will obsessively stalk me wherever I go through the house, showing up at or near any room I'm in. When I leave the upstairs (her favorite place to be), she stands around with me at the downstairs and meows forlornly. When I leave the house and come back, she acts like Odysseus's faithful hound Argos, like she was waiting for the moment I returned from my years and years of traveling so she could see me one last time and go to her grave in peace.
In the meantime, I am her entertainment of course. She loves to jump on me when I go lay in my bed, and enjoys being snuggled, but only on her terms. She doesn't like being picked up, and will be a drama kitty again and meow like I was holding her over a tub of sharks instead of gently holding her in my arms. She obviously does care about me, and shows every sign of missing me when I'm gone.

Both of my beloved cats just recently died two months apart, and I can honestly say they showed me much love and affection. As I did them. Marlan was 14yrs 2months old and Marcie 14yrs and 6months old.

My dog likes me and doesn't understand why I smoke so much. I honestly don't either. He also turns to me for defense, the world is a scary place for him even tho he barks to scare it away. lol
