You are never too old to start dancing, if you want to do it for fun. I know people who've taken up dancing at 40 or 50 and are still able to enjoy it. However, if you want to do it as a career, then you have to choose the right kind of dancing.
It's too late for you to make a career in ballet, contemporary or jazz, because women in these dance styles require a lot of flexibility that can really only be achieved if you start early. However, ballroom, latin, belly dancing and flamenco are all career options for you.
I danced for fun from the age of 19. Depending on where I lived and what classes were available, I did ballet, jazz, contemporary and aerobic dancing. Then when I was 40, I decided to try flamenco, and discovered a gift for it. Within 3 years, I was part of a professional troupe giving performances at weddings, conferences and fairs.
I have recently taken up belly dancing, just for a change, and I've met several professional dancers who didn't start until their 20's or 30's.

No you are not, and no you are not too old to make it professionally. I had my first dance class when I was 18, and have danced in top professional Jazz and Ballet companies, as well as in a couple Broadway tours. It depends on how much you are willing to give to it. In many ways, your age will help you as you now know your body. However, I will agree that some people just aren;t naturally flexible or coordinated. If that is you, then professional may be out of your reach, but you can still overcome much and have an enjoyable time training your body. Good Luck!

NO ONE is too old to strat dancing!! if dancing is something you love ,then go for it!!! i've worked with choreographers and professional dancers that perform, choregraph, and teach all over the WORLD and some of them didn't start until they were 16 and 17 years old. Anythings possible. This will definitely be a big challenge, especially since it is ballet., but once you get the hang of it and sit back and realize how beautiful it all is, you'll know it's all worth it :). Don't worry about your age, just give it your all , be a determined and serious student,

Are you talking ballet or ballroom?
You are very good age for ballroom, that is, you can still get to the top ranks. Ballet - it is still possible, but hard. If ballroom appeals to you, look up a studio near you (by ZIP code) on this website:

No, you're not! YOU're at a perfect age to start. When I used to ake lessons, some of the other students were senior citizens. Yes, there are dancing classes, for everyone. Some times a city's dept of recreation has some classes, of every kind.
No, it wouldn't be pointless at all, but informing.Could be fun, too! If you were where I am, we could practice dancing, together.

Sounds like you are already dancing. You are never too old to do something you enjoy. Not many people are forturnate enough to do what they love. But end up doing what they are taught. Do it.
