Or is it just a urban legend? Boxer shorts are uncomfortable for me to wear under jeans. I can only wear Briefs because I find them to be more comfortable. And I've been hearing a lot about the sperm count problem.

For some men, who have trouble conceiving because of low sperm count, doctors sometimes recommend that they wear boxers rather than briefs, because holding the testicles too close to the body has kept them too warm to produce live swimmers.
If you're wearing tight jeans, it wouldn't matter what kind of underwear, your testicles would still be close to your warm body. But this is only an issue for someone who has had trouble conceiving a child because of low sperm count. Most men wear whatever underwear they please and have all the babies they can pay for.

Yes. Briefs keep the testicles too close to the body. The testicles need a lower temperature than body temp to manufacture sperm, which is why they hang away from the body.

Tight jeans or other pants produces the same effect, so if your boxers are uncomfortable, could it be that you're wearing them with tight pants? If so, wearing boxers won't do you any good, as the pants will draw the testicles up against the too-warm body anyway.

The previous answers are accurate about the connection between scrotal temperature and fertility... I will just add that the "sperm count problem" is only an issue if you're actively trying to conceive and having trouble doing so. If your concern is only that having a low sperm count will interfere with your sexual ability, don't worry 'cos it doesn't work that way. A low sperm count may prevent you from conceiving, but won't keep you from having erections or ejaculating. So, if you are trying to conceive, you probably want to wear looser-fitting undies AND pants. If not, no worries!

briefs do play a part in sperm production. if they're too tight the scrotum is too close to the body and inhibiting sperm production because the body temperature to too warm for that process.

The joke going around:

If you're out to impregnate, chill out out on the briefs.

our fertility specialist told us that the problem with briefs is that the testicles are held too close to the body and the temperature is the problem. boxers allow the testicles to 'cool off' and that helps with sperm production as they die off in heat.

They can if they are tight, because it gets so much warmer there. This is not a problem unless your trying to get someone pregnant. I assume you are though
