This is an unusual question; could you be more specific?
For instance, an example of checks and balances is when the president vetoes a bill passed by congress.
When President Bush decided to forego the FISA courts and secretly wiretap Americans' phone lines without notifying Congress, that was NOT an example of checks and balances.

Checks and Balances in the federal government are.. First you need the basics:
Congrss has power to make laws, declare war, etc
President has Executive power to enforce laws and propose a decleration of war.
US Supreme Court interprets the laws..So lets say Congress makes proposes and passes a law and the president veteos the law..Congress has to Vote for that law by 2/3's to override the presidents Veteo. If its passed and taken to the Supreme court, they can declare it unconstitional. So, president has some powre over the supreme court, he can appoint the judges..Congress has to appove the judges. Congress can also impeach the president..So we have a nice balanced system of Checks and Balances

In Accounting, Policies and Procedures that require all checks written require two (2)signatures as a part of internal control. One Individuals is a check and balance that the other does not write a check for an inappropriate amount or Payee.
I hope that this helps. If I can explain or help in other ways please write.

Having the same party in control of more than one branch of the government, since elected officials are more likely to vote as their party dictates rather than how their constituents want them to.
