Fritz Pollard was the first Black Quarterback and the first Black coach. He played as quarterback for the Hammond Pros. He was inducted to the Pro Footbal Hall of Fame in 2005. He died in 1986.

The first black quarterback to start was Marlin Briscoe. The first black quarterback to play was Willie Thrower. He played his first game on October 18th, 1953.

All of this information is about the NFL... not professionally in all of history.

You're all wrong. It was Willie Thrower of the Chicago Bears out of MSU. He was way before Briscoe & the others.

I'm not sure, but it was probably the first one to call the NAACP, Jesse Jackson, and Al Sharpton and cry that he was being discriminated against cause of his color, when in reality, he couldn't complete 50% of his passes.
