I have 2 laptops with builtin Wireless Local Area Network Adapter (WLAN) and I want to connect them directly without using any additional device

YES you can do this - it is called an "ad hoc" connection. You set it up to NOT need an 'access point'.

Check the HELP section of your PC [Win or Apple or Linux] for the settings you need to have for this to work, but it is fairly simple.

be sure to set up some kind of security - otherwise others can access your PC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Your have to have a wireless router. otherwise you will have to your the Ethernet slot.
