When you were 20 months old , do you remember knowing what is right and wrong ? Your parents are there to protect you not to disciple you at this stage .What does a child do at this age which makes people want to put it in the corner ? This is for the person who is responsible for the child . Not for the child .It is better to have patience and nurture a child .

I was told it is ok to put a child in the corner. The state told me the right way to do it is take their age per minute. Example: 2 years old 2 minutes in corner or on time out chair. Child is only 1 so it sounds right. They don't like it though!!

i don't think you should try the stand in the corner. i believe in old fashion discipline. be firm when you correct the child. say what you mean. let the child know that you mean business and you are the boss. you may have to tap or spank the child maybe once. don't spank too hard or too much. this is not child abuse. i was disciplined this way and im grown now. i remember those times and im thankful that my parents disciplined that way.

Woah! A bit too early, I think. He's not even 2!! Why not save the decipline to when he can remember what he did and when it will count? He is too young and will not understand what is expected of him. He has no concept of time and it could escalate and frustrate everyone involved and make everything worse. Poor little guy! :(

I don't think 20mo is too young for a time out. But, instead of a corner, why not have a time out chair or a time out stool. Have the child sit in the chair for a minute or two - they will learn that the chair is the time out chair. I think the corner is too harsh for a child.

Have you tried everything else? There must be a better solution. And even if you decide to try it, whatever you do, IF IT DOESN'T WORK SOON, STOP !!!!!! It means it will never work and you will only be traumatising the kid.
