Why do so many women have such a fascination with shoes ?

oh personally i don't play playstation, its for kids and i don't wear name label clothes if i can avoid it, i hate all that stuff.
But i see your points in that.

I agree with Mondschein, and also shoes help make an outfit, you can dress an outfit up or down depending on the shoes chosen. You can also make yourself appear more streamlined by wearing heels, and can convey an air of professionalism in the office...(did you read that piece earlier this summer about women wearing flip flops to work?) The sheer variety of ballerina pumps available can help show your personality and style... and people always look at a persons shoes when trying to read them. Shoes = confidence and expression! Plus the obvious, that we need a variety of shoes for different activities and occasions...shoes are functional! And, of course, women love pretty things!

Because shoes have to match the outfit, the purse and sometimes the car color. They also have to fit the occasion. Everyone pays attention to shoes, especially girls. I guess for someone it becomes as important as weapon competition for governments.

i got loads of shoes and 2 pairs of trainers but i only wear 2 of my pairs of shoes and my trainers. i guess its just a woman thing

I have one pair of trainers, one pair of pumps, two pairs of summery slip-ons (only one pair fits) and a smartish pair for formal occassions. I don't think thats too bad.
