A hydrocarbon (a) was found to have the molecular formula C10H12. some results from chemical reactions are as follows:

1) when (a) was reacted with ozone in the presence of aqueous acetic acid and Zn, it gave two prodects (b) and (c)

both of these products yeilded yellow solids when reacted with 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine in the presence of dilute HCL

What do these results tell you about (a), (b), (c)

2)when (b) was reacted with Tollens reagent, a silver mirrot formed on the walls of the test tube (positive result). THe compund (c) was a negative result. What do these results tell you about (b) (c)

3)When (b) was warmed with aqueous NaOH in the presence of iodine, yellow precip. of Chi3 formed. what does this indicate?

4) draw structure of (b)

5)(c) gave a positive iodoform rxn, also after idoform had been filtered off, benzoic acid precipitateed off. Draw (c)

6) (a) was one of 2 strucual formulas draw both

7) give acceptable (iupac) name for one of them

if you're gonna do stuff like this you gotta take things one at a time and a better thing for you to do is go see your TA or professor. if nothing else it shows you care about the class which is worth a lot.

1) if you react with ozone on a DB you get carboxylic acids which are fairly reactive. this means that a had at least 1 double bond. The second part means b and c are either keytones or aldehydes.

2) tollens test is specific for aldehydes so that means b is an aldehyde, c is a keytone

3) iodoform test positive result means you have a methyl keytone

and the rest i can't do here

This is a huge questions... sheesh.
The portion about the Tollens reagent: The Tollens test is selective for aldehydes. When an ALDEHYDE is reacted with Ag2O in the presence of NH4OH ammonia, it forms the carboxylic acid and a pure silver Ag mirror. It's good for determining whether an aldehyde is present. If it's the ketone, no silver mirror will be seen.
