What IS the point to football? I just don't get it! I can understand wanting to support your country but their are other ways of doing it, i was in my local the other night when the 'footie' was on, and when someone scored a goal these drunken idiots started jumping around the room spilling their drink all over me and my friends, they laughed and then proceded to chat us up, as if we were actually interested in them, the cheek! All i can see that it teaches little children and men alike, is to be competitive, rude, obnoxious, loud-mouthed morons! (And yes i am taking the pee out of football fans)!!!!!

The sport does not make people rude and intollearable... they are born or bred like that. Soccer is a great game that teaches, team work, respecting individual talent, focus on an objective, the importance of exercise and the reward for hard work. In the case of Serie A the pitfalls of not following the rules....does it not teach lessons of life. More importantly it provides jos and recreation for millions and an opportunity for a better life ot many disadvataged communities.

In the end, your perspective on soccer should not be tainted by a few rude people. It would be like saying all women are loose becuase you met up with some ladies in the oldest profession looking for income in the same pub!

I really do not know, as I have never been to a football match and never will, just cannot understand why grown men get all excited about a load of big jessies running round after a ball trying to get it in the net. I will never understand all those terrible injurys they suffer which are magically fixed with that can of magic water they spray on the injury, if the National health service had some of that it would save this country a fortune, the jessies can go from rolling around in agony and back to running in 5 seconds ?
Hmmmm football

My best advice for you this (and every) summer is eat healthy, exercise by doing weight lifting, and either jogging or going for a long run every day. If you do these things, you will get faster, stronger, and into better shape, which will greatly improve your chances of becoming a successful, top notch high school football/lacrosse player, who could go on to play college football/lacrosse in the future.

Its one of the best sports in the world. It brings people together from all across the globe. Creates jobs and raises tons of money for charity. What would you sooner have? Young children out on the street throwing bricks through windows?
It brings lots of different skills together. From pace to stamina, balance, passing, heading, teamwork, flair etc. Try going out and kicking a ball. How accurate are you? Enough said. Its a game of skill that each player offers to there teammates in order to get the ball in the oppositions net. As for the people out in the pub watching the game. Ask the bar owner who he would sooner have in his pub... I bet that he would defend these loyal fans that come and support his team and his pub. Ask any pub owner the question. Football brings joy and money to any country.
As for taking the pee out of football fans, well i laugh that these guys decided to spill there drinks on you. You sound like a stuffed up bore with no passion and any idea on how to enjoy yourself. So go and sit in the corner of the pub and talk about eastenders or something just as sad.

I am not dignify this USELESS question with an answer but if i was i would be here for ages. 2 things about your question ; What does the ACTUAL game of football have to do with the boisterous behaviour of some and also it seems you think that all 'football fans' are the same which is obviously not true. Just generalising. Pure ignorance.....

Down the end of the field, there's a frame with a net hung over it. The point of football is to get the ball in there. The drunken idiots are nothing to do with it - you'll find them everywhere.

What is the point of YOU? Get a life. If anyone is rude, obnoxious, and loud mouthed it's YOU.

Football teaches young men commitment, discipline, cooperation, dedication, team, how to work together, sportsmanship, respect, work ethic, and I could go on and on. It teaches young men skills that they can use later in life to be contributors in society.

Before you run your mouth, you should know what you're talking about.

If you don't like football & can't see the point in it.
Why go in a pub when you know footballs going to be on, just let the boys be boys.
You could always join in, You never know you might just end up enjoying yourself!

this thread is getting so obscene, ok, let me say this, if you don't like it, stay away from it, nobody begs you to watch it, as for fans do stupid things, what can I say, it's part of the game. By the way, ever watch ice hockey, it's ruder, more obnoxious as you would call, and we love it,

not everyone is like that...and you'd only understand why we enjoy football so much if you actually know what is going on and you have a team you support. it's like nascar. if you don't have a driver you support and you have no idea what is going on, it's boring as heck. but hey, that is okay that u don't like it...not everyone likes the same things, but you also have to understand from our side that we consider it an enjoyable sport...
