Or is it just me? the other day my friend tripped and fell and they didnt get hurt but i was laughing so hard for like ten min i was even crying cause i laughed so hard! does every one do that or just me?

I laugh because I know it could be me instead. And, it is to laugh WITH them to make it not so serious--to laugh it off helps the situation and the person involved to get over it faster.
I don't laugh at another's misfortune nor because I am feeling better in some way.

As long as nobody gets hurt, it's perfectly okay to laugh at the misfortunes of others in my opinion. I even go as far as to warn my friends that if they do fall in the course of doing something, I will laugh at them!

We laugh because we know in the end we will be the ones to help them up if they really need it. Plus they look stupid, how can you not laugh.

laughter happens when you feel you are better than someone in some way. by not making the mistake they made, or being in such a bad situation as they are.
maybe you laughed because you are not in her situation

we tend to laugh at others misfortune. its how we have been brought up. if its something small we will laugh our assss off. but if its something big and sad, we tend to shed tears for the victim instead.

I think people do it because they know how it would be to be in the same situation. Also because of the amusing positions that people can get in. also because it can be so unexpected
