I am managing mine with diet alone. I explored the drugs on the market and did not like the side effects.
Suggestions I found from my research (some clinically proven, some anecdotal but apparently sound):
- oatmeal 3-4 times a week. Add 1 T. lecithin, 1 T. wheat or oat bran, 1 tsp. cinnamon and molasses to taste.
- a handful of almonds daily
- a cup of blueberries daily
- a T. olive oil daily
-avoid all trans fats (margarine as well as cookies, pie crusts etc. - anything made with margarine or shortening) - butter in moderation (say 1 T/day) is ok.
- avoid red meats and cut visible fat from other meats. Remove skin from chicken.
- avoid bacon
- NO FAST FOODS!
Rationale for some of the above:
- cinnamon and some of the other foods mentioned have a reputation for lowering cholesteral. Use cinnamon whenever you can!
- oatmeal and all bran help bind with cholesteral and remove it from arteries
- lecithin is an emulsifier (i.e. it breaks up fats). Helps to dissolve cholesteral and wash it away. Can be bought in granules in any health food store. Practically flavorless; add it to casseroles, stir-frys or anywhere else you can think of besides your oatmeal.
After 90 days on this regimen, have your cholesteral checked again. You should be pleasantly surprised!
P.S. This is not a quick fix but rather a plan for life!

I don't have a natural remedy per se, however I recently got an oddly similar shock with my Blood Pressure & Cholesterol Readings. At 29 y.o 5'11 and only 75kg I was shocked. The Dr. suggested I try quitting smoking (for blood pressure) and try to relax, which i've done. For the Cholesterol he told me i simply need to eat more 'whole foods', Nuts, Seeds, Legumes.. High fibre foods. He also advised me to eat Avocado at breakfast, as it has only Mono-unsaturated fats, which are known to actively reduce cholesterol. He also told me to up my exercise regime which i have, It is good to see you have done the same. At the end of the day you may need to take medication short term to help allieviate any major threats, just to be safe. I didn't do that myself, as I was not advised to. Just make sure you follow you instincts and keep getting checked up, and listen to your doctor, life is important. If you feel like you are getting better and your index reduces, then keep at it. Otherwise Meds it is... But Stay Healthy!! ~Jack

Policosanol
Red Rice Yeast
Real Garlic
Also, some forms of probiotic (good bacteria) have been shown to reduce high cholesterol, but only if your problem is from diet. Try Kefir if you can afford it every day.

My anti cholesterol drug, Lipitor is incompatible with Grapefruit. Im thinking of taking up eating Grapefruit and finishing with Lipitor. The side-effects are horrendous!!
The largest cause of cholesterol is not food. It is stress. Try Yoga?

If the high-fiber diet and exercise aren't getting the results you need then you have a genetic problem. If this is the case then you need to consult your physician and get an approved medicine such as lipitor. Don't let homeopathy lead you to a heart attack.

Grape seed oil, and oatmeal helped me to drop mine down from 266 to 200 in just 2 months.
A table spoon of grape seed oil a day, by the spoon, or on salad, just about anything,
And 2 serving size of oatmeal for my afternoon or evening meal.
I got tired of oatmeal, but it helps, and now I have it a few times a week.
