you would want a positive unit for racing,,a limited unit will slip,,and then the other wheel will grab,,with a positive unit,,both wheels will lock down for the best traction possible,,i own a repair shop,,and we also have a few hot rods around here,,i hope this help,s.you can buy a good positive unit,at a used auto parts place,,or you can get a new one,,and switch them out,,you,ll like a positive unit much better.

The difference is only in the name. All posi-traction and limited slip differentials have to compensate for different rates of rotation to each rear wheel during a turn. (The outside wheel travels a greater distance and has to turn faster to cover this distance without skidding.)

Limited slip is probably the better description, but Posi sounds so much cooler.

For out and out drag racing, a "spool" hooks the two axles together solid - and that's REAL posi-traction. Unfortunately, it isn't streetable at all - it pretty much limits the vehicle to be driven straight ahead because when it is turned, the rear end tires skid and eventually scuff the treads right off them.

Most of the circle track driver's I've talked to overwhelmingly prefer an "open" rear end. The kind you find in most rear drive vehicles.

It really depends on what type of racing you refer to.

posi traction means both wheels turn at the same rate of speed and a limited slip is were the wheels have a transfer of power between the two of them. posi for racing

A limited slip differential locks the drive wheels after the one tire starts to slip/spin. Posi is always locked both wheels will start to slip./spin at the same time. Most muscle car guys will tell you go with posi, most import guys will say LSD, its all in the gear box, or transfer case. I know some import guys that will weld thier limited slip together so it is always engaged...so if you actually have a choice go with the posi.
