We just had our 10-year-old daughter's ears pierced yesterday. If she wanted a second hole in one ear, we'd probably say that was okay. But at this age, tattoos or piercings in other locations would have to wait.

To be honest, I've never seriously considered getting a tattoo. If I did, I guess my parents would try to talk me out of it, but then they would let me do what I want. I got my ears pierced when I was 4 years old because it's a traditional thing where I come from, but I don't want a piercing anywhere else.
I know someone who has a tattoo on her abdomen and another with a nose piercing, but that's, like, 5% of the people I see on a regular basis. Good luck with your paper.

I started getting piercings when I was 16. My mom signed for me to get a tongue piercing, before I understood to go to a piercing studio not a hair salon which also did piercings-that didn't go well, pierced incorrectly. After that i went with friends to a place that didn't ask for ID and got 2 tattoos and both nipples pierced. Once I turned 18 I found a good professional studio and got quite a few different piercings-my mom didn't care at all since its my body, and i was 18...she didn't really care before that either. I eventually started working in the above mentioned professional studio so then she had absolutely no problem with me getting anything, including my tongue split

My mom and step dad actually took me to get my first tattoo, of course I was 21. I think the reason that some parents are against their children getting tattoos is because when you're young you live your life in the moment; you don't think about how the tattoo or piercing may come in to play when your looking for a job. Parents are just looking out for their kids, because even if you don't think so they do know better.

I'm 20, my mom took me to get my ears pierced when I was six, and I got several more when I was 16 that my dad signed for. Then I got one just a few months ago, that no one had to sign for, except me.
My parents were totally okay with piercing, but my mom would never have allowed a tattoo, she would be so mad! But I plan on getting one anyways.

No, my parents never has a problem. Although I respected them enough to wait until I was 18 to get my 2 tattoos, however, I got all of my piercings (6 in lower ears, 1 in ear cartilage, belly button, nose, munroe, lip) when I was 12-17. My mum supported them all!

As a parent, I would never give permission to a young person to get a tatoo. I would tell them they must wait until they are 18, and then I would allow them to make their own decision (but I might offer them some advice too). But that is just my opinion. Other parents might allow it, but that is their decision.

I have 3 tattoos, got them all after I was 18. After each one I called my mom & told her and she just sighed & reminded me that when i'm 80 i'll not look so hot. But I think she's gotten over it now.

I have my ears gauged. two that are 00g, two that are 2g, and eyebrow piercing (done at 16, i just asked my mom to take me for consent-she loved it), and a wrist piercing. My mom loves my wrist piercing. After i got mine done she convinced my twin and my older sis to get them done.

I've designed or am designing tatts for everyone in my fam, but my dad.

My family is cool with body mods as long as you can either hide it or it doesn't show-for career purpose.

hope that helps
