Honestly, the first week after her period is probably too late for ovulation. That usually occurs during the second week after the period. (14 days before the next period is more likely, so it actually depends on her cycle length) After conception, it takes up to a week to implant, which is when the hormones start surging, which is when the symptoms start and a pg test would be positive. I didn't experience any symptoms until around 6 weeks (two weeks after missed period) with my two.

My friend has all the classic symptoms.
Nausea, tender in the chest area (extremely, to quote "I don't even want to feel a breeze across them, it hurts so bad")
also sore lower back, more emotional, some changes in bathroom habits, feeling more tired...
I hear her fuss with her new husband (not that unusual) but you can hear the exhaustion in her voice. And he is trying to do anything she needs. Poor guy, she's likely to run him ragged. Still they both very much wanted this, and when they first told me they were simply over the moon about it.
I hope it is as cheerful an event for you two!
Be on the lookout for the above, and do take care of your wife-&mother-to-be! She'll apreciate it more than she can say.
Best wishes - J

I doubt she would be showing symptoms after only a week. Generally, symptoms don't start until a woman is about 6 weeks pregnant. When she does show symptoms (which vary from woman to woman) she could show any of the following:
Swollen, tender breasts
Hard abdomen with a feeling of fullness/bloating
Nausea/vomiting
Tiredness/needing to sleep more
Fainting (rare but it happens with some women)
Needing to urinate more
Absence of mensturation

I have been pregnant twice & both times the signs were swollen breasts, nausea & exhaustion. It might be a bit early for her to be displaying symptoms even if she is pregnant. She should start taking folic acid tablets just in case.

They could be symptoms of pregnancy. They could also be wishful thinking. Best to wait until her period is due. Don't get too disheartened if things don't happen straight away, it can take several months to get pregnant. Have lots of sex and enjoy yourselves!
