Probably not because originally sony/playstation is based on non handheld game systems. It would also be difficult to redesighn there product in a handheld system! I think the reason why they made psp was because they needed a new product and fast so they decided to make psp not much improvment from ps2 to psp other then the portablity (imagine it like this nintendo has gameboy advance, gameboy sp and gamboy micro they all really dont have much improvment from the original version gameboy advanced but they do make a new product and with every new product brings in new profit!). That is why the chances of sony making a new handheld system is very low!

Honestly, probably not soon. They're too worried right now about standing up to the upcoming PS3, and Wii. Handheld gaming from Microsoft would take up too much R & D money, which they don't have due to express release of the 360.
