I am English by birth and have always been treated with respect by Americans, but they do have some strange ideas about foreign [to them] people. They seem to think that most English men are homosexuals. I spent my first 24 years in England and seldom met a homosexual, and from what I've heard there is no equivalent in England to parts of San Francisco. And the Americans insist that the French are cowardly, against all the evidence of history. Would the Americans have liked to be neighbour to Germany in 1939? Misconceptions [I could go on] but hate is surely too strong a word.

Making fun of people does not mean they hate them. Except in the few cases that it is obviously maliciously meant, it has to be understood as humor and one needs a sense of humor to appreciate it.
As a matter of fact most Americans like the British and they positively LOVE the British royals.
