I prefer to take care of my car by hand. If I were ever to subject my car to a machine wash, I'd go touchless though. The more intensive "flapping" washes will remove more dirt, but at a price. What happens is the dirt can become embedded in the flaps from earlier cars and your own and will wipe across your paint, marring your finish and potentially scratching your paint.

If you care for your car, at the very least wash it by hand properly and wax it monthly. It costs about the same in the long run, doesn't damage your paint as much, and you spend time learning the craft.

Touchless is better. If the fabric kind get some dirt stuck on them, they can leave minor scratches on a car.

The swinging, flapping fabric kind. When our dog was still alive we used to go through with him in the car and he would growl and try to bite the fabric as it brushed across the windows. Every single time! The outside of the car would be clean but the inside would be a mess:)

Touchless for me
1) those swinging things make me nervous
2) the swinging things tend to pull of my antenna decoration that I always forget to remove!

I liked the old ones the best. The kind with the plastic bristle brushes that actually scrubbed the **** off of the car. Occasionally they would rip an antenna off or leave plastic bristles stuck in the mirrors and grille. But man... You could go muddin and then run through one of those and it would get clean!

With todays flimsy car bodies, I prefer the touchless washes myself. There is one near my house that even employs an Illegal Mexican to dry your car for you with fresh towels as you leave the carwash. No extra charge! Of course he is probably working for Minimum wage with no benefits... but he does a nice job!

Update: Stinkin Yahell cencored my words with ****. I did NOT Swear! I used a word that means slimy dirt/debris... It was not used as derogatory term describing Korean people. I hate Censorship... Live Free or Die!

I've always liked the swinging and flapping fabric and brushes. It was so much fun as a kid to sit in the car while it went through. My mother always got out though because she was claustrophobic. It's been years since I've gotten to do that though. My bf always takes the cars to a self-service car wash place and does it (or he does it in the driveway at home).

Touchless is less likely to cause damage to the paint!

Touchless! The swingy stuff is entertaining until you see all the little swirly scratches, but it has been literally months since I had my car washed.
