Our kid will be 4.5 months on Halloween and we're taking her. If you want to see her costume, look here: http://store.babycenter.com/product/halloween/06_costumes/7516?intcmp=&stage=all

We realize at this point, it's more for us than for her -- but she likes being in her stroller and we know our friends and neighbors will think she's adorable in her costume :)

I think an 8-month-old is a little young to go trick-or-treating, especially since he can't really eat much of the candy yet. I have to admit that I think the parents are a little greedy when they collect candy for an infant who obviously can't eat it. Now, if your son had older siblings or older cousins/neighbors to go with, and he didn't really collect candy, then I'd say it was fine.

My daughters are 3 years and 21 months (so they were 2 1/2 and almost a year last Halloween). What we've done every year is to sit outside to hand out candy when the weather's nice. We all get dressed up, and the girls help pass out candy and sample a few small bites of whatever we're distributing. We do go to a few neighbors' houses because I know that they love to see the kids in costume, but that's it.

This past year was a blast! My older daughter helped my husband carve a jack-o-lantern, so we had that outside. The kids were running around in the driveway, eating candy, and enjoying all the costumes of kids who came to our door. I honestly thought it was a lot more fun than hauling them all over the entire neighborhood when they didn't need that much candy anyway.

If you have lots of kids that come to your house, I think your son would be perfectly happy staying home and handing out candy.

Yes, take him! I see babies out all the time. My oldest didn't go out his first Halloween. Instead we opted to stay home and pass out candy. But my youngest has gone every year. Why not? It is fun and exciting even at 8 months. If you worry that he'll get bored then just take him for a little while. At such a young age you probably won't want to keep him out too long anyway. That is a lot of stimulation for such a little one. Just take him for half an hour. If he seems like he is enjoying it and you think he'll be okay, stay out another half hour.

Our family loves Halloween. My next baby is due in March and you can be sure I'll have him/her out there next October. :)

He would probably enjoy staying home and watching the trick or treaters come to the door much more than going out himself. He's a little young to be having candy anyway isn't he? Wait until next year when he will really enjoy it. That way the people shelling out won't think that the treats are really for you !!

I wouldn't. He won't be able to eat any of the candy, and so it would reflect badly upon you--making it look like you're out to get the candy for yourself. You could dress him up in a cute little costume and push him around in the neighborhood in his stroller (for a change of scenery, some fresh air, and so he can see the other trick-or-treaters), but I doubt he'd hold the bag out, and I know he can't stay trick-or-treat yet. By you taking him out to actually go door to door, that sort of reflects selfishness on your part. In essence, you're taking candy away from the kids--the ones for whom Halloween was meant.

On my older son's first Halloween, he was almost 8 months old, and we dressed him up in a little devil costume (he was SO cute!) and he "helped" me hand out candy at the door.

I took my little guy when he was 10 mos old.....he fell asleep. LOL. He didnt get scared in the least, but did get tired. I think it is fine for you to do this. Of course if he is grumpy or not enjoying you would take him home. But there is no rule saying you cant take him until he is a certain age. HAve fun....the best part of being a parent is having fun with them. Not sure if you have a boy or girl but do something fun with it....like you a witch and the baby a black cat or...something like that.

honestly i think that 8 months old is a little too young for trick or treating. i mean, the babys not going to eat the candy. he wont really understand it either. i would say wait until next year when he will really enjoy it. you can still dress him up if you want to though, just for your fun.

I don't think it is really necessary. To your neighbors, it will only seem as though you are using your baby for candy. My DS was 7 mths old on his first halloween. I took him to visit his grandparents, and the neighbors we were close with but that was all. If you really, really want to go, then I suggest hooking up with another family in the area that has an older child.

That is an awesome idea. We took our oldest (at the time he was 7months) trick or treating & we had a blast. We stopped by some friend's houses, then hit the neighborhood. He had fun looking at all the lights. And we had fun eating the candy!

Sure. It is fine to take your baby trick or treating weather permitting and not for too long. Take some pics and make some memories! Your little one will enjoy the scrapbook when they are older!
