Is it normal for a 2 week old baby to be turning on her side already, holding her own bottle and pacifier, kissing people on the cheek, licking her tongue and laughing all the time and turning her head in the direction of voices to see who's talking? I'm just a new parent and this is my first child and I just wanted to know if this stuff happened to anyone else's babies this young or if she's right on track.

It is normal for a 2 wk. old baby to turn her head toward voices, especially if it's one she knows. Some do turn on their sides at this age also but if your 2 week old is already holding her own bottle & pacifier, that is extremely advanced as is kissing anyone anywhere or actually laughing. If she is indeed doing these things all on her own, you need to take her to the Dr. If there is nothing wrong, then she definitely needs some baby experts to work with her to make sure her intelligence level doesn't go downhill. Sometimes, when babies are that far advanced that young, it can mean there's something wrong. Just make real sure that your baby is doing these things independantly & that you are not wishfull thinking and/or seeing things that aren't really there.

Oh dear. It is a very very difficult decision. My father had terminal lung cancer and there was nothing the hospital could do. He was also 85. Initially we thought Keeping him at home is also quite difficult in case there is an emergency and we do not know what to do but as he was predicted to live for 6 months more , the hospital could not accomodate him. In the end, we suffered the same delimma as you and could not bear to put him at the nursing home thinking its only for a few months. So, we did what was best as we could afford in both sense. Medically and emotionally. We brought him home and hired a nurse during the day. At night we took turns to sleep with him. We borrowed an oxygen tank from the hospice care. It worked out just find but there were times when we had to send him to hospital in an ambulance and he had to suffer much during the delay. That was when his lungs were drowned with fluid. You can ask the maid agency for Filippino maids who were nurses before. They just cost a bit more than the usual helps. Also, find out how much the nursing homes charge and you can make a decision from there. Hope this puts your mind at ease. Take care.

Some babies are really really smart. If your is doing that that is great. Start teaching her the alphabet sounds. Work with her and letters and numbers. My daughter in law did and at 2 my grandson know all the sounds of the alphabet. I have even seen children read at age 3. I think its just great that your baby does that and I hope that you take time to develop her talents more. This is a child who should home school or the school will stifle her abilities. There are many home school groups and I remember one child reading that young and was in the home school group.

Sounds a little strange. Most babies don't do that stuff til they are 2 months old. Holding her own bottle?? Most babies don't do that til about 5-6 months?? Sounds strange.......she is very advanced for a 2 week old??

She is an advanced child. Congratulations!!!!

***************

Just as a little story to tell you:

When my sister was born, the doctor put her in my mom's arms, she lifted her head, looked at my mom and then fell asleep. Congratulations on your beautiful baby! And I'm glad to hear that she is doing so well being a premie and born so small. My nephew was born so small that you could cradle him in the palm of your hand. AWE! I hope to be joining the new mother club some time next year. I already have an 11 yo and want to add to the family.

looks like you have no worries there
cute story: when my son was about 2 or 3 weeks old, we were watching him sleep, he was soooo peaceful.
As we were marvelling about his peacefulness and total trust and comfort, he all of a sudden let out with a really great giggle. a belly laff that surprised us so much. So there you go, at 2 weeks, he had a dream while he was sleeping that obviously pleased him, and he laffed in his sleep.
ps
he is now 17 and still talks and laffs in his sleep.

I studied infant/child development and have 3 children. My children started these milestones very early too. I was amazed because it all happened so early and video taped it because it is hard to believe. At 2 weeks old, that is very advanced and she seems bright. Check the site below.

Well, it's not normal, but it's not impossible. Was she full term, or possibly even 10 months in the womb? There are a lot of variables. What I have found is that parents imagine these things more often than not.

Ok my daughter was doing some of this stuff. Its common alot more now. My daughter was trying to roll over at her 2 week appointment too. Her doc told me to keep an eye on her.

I dont know about the kissing ppl on the cheek. Is it more like slobbering?

No need to freak out be proud she isnt a mutant she is just advance and curious. Welcome to parenting!
