I love Elton John, but I think he's stretching his talents way too far to record hip-hop. He already stretched his talents way beyond where they should go by writing music for the Broadway stage (in my opinion). However, this being said, "Rock of the Westies" from the 1970s is a great R&B-influenced album. But hip-hop is a little too far from his main talents as a pop musician.

Whatever he wants to do. I'm not a big Elton John fan but I like some of his stuff. If he wants to try his hand at hip-hop, maybe he can find his own distinctive groove. If so, good for him.

if he wants to explore his creativity than that's his business. I don't know what the finished product would be like, but I think it's cool that he want to try new avenues. there was a time when hip hop wasn't even a genre and because of people being creative and having a "pioneer spirit" it's here. so while I may not buy it I am interested in seeing what that would be like

I think he is nuttier than a fruitcake!
Actually, I don't like hip-hop; But I don't see why he isn't as qualified as anyone else to make such an album.
