when i was about 10 years old i fell off the top bunk when i was sleeping once. i woke up on the ground and my back was killing me. i ended up compressing a disc in my back. it hurt for many years after that. but its fine now.
now i sleep on a loft bed about six feet in the air. but only because i have too much crap in this apartment and nowhere to store it.

I've never rolled off the top bunk because mine had/have a railing- but believe me, the screws that hold it in place are well worn from it being pushed on in the night. Without that railing, I can only imagine how much brain damage I would have.

My kids did. My son rolled off the top bunk, hit his head on the ladder when he fell and put a knot on it so big I took him to the ER afraid he had cracked his skull or something. He didn't and he was fine.
