A situation arose recently that reminded me of something that happened years ago. My cousin's husband had been abusing her little girl. Bad physical abuse. I mean cigarette burns on purpose, being beaten..... She was, I believe, 3yo or 4yo. A few of my cousin's uncles took the child's father into the woods & showed him what would happen if he ever hurt the child again.
Do you agree that when it comes to protecting children it's ok for the family to handle it rather than calling the police & have them take the man to jail & have him right back out of jail the next day & back at home with the kid?
I know, my cousin should have left him, and she did finally realize she could do better. That's a whole nother story, low self-esteem, weighed over 350lbs.

They did the right thing! Too bad they didn't do it sooner though, could have saved the little girl a lot of pain. You said years ago so I'm assuming she's a young adult now? I hope what she went through hasn't stayed with her & given her low self-esteem like her mom. Was her mom abused as a child?
Families should definitely be allowed to take matters into their own hands. Not saying they should kill anyone (except in certain situations, HA!) but showing someone that there will be consequences for things they do would cut out a lot of abuse.
What could that man have done? He couldn't have called the police on those uncles for beating the s*** out of him, which I'm assuming is what you meant by showing him what would happen if he continued to hurt the child. It's not like he could have told the police they beat me up because of those bruises and cigarette burns I put on my daughter.

Good for the uncles. They should be commended! I don't condon violence...but a lot of times, getting an abuser arrested won't change them. Plus, if ur cousin had a low self-esteem, she would've bonded him out and the abuse would've never stopped probably. But the kid's uncle's probably scared the bastard and since abusers are usually cowards...that's what the guy would've responded to more effectively than a couple of months in jail.

Were the uncles right or wrong. If they managed to stop the abuse well I would say they were right. But abusive people just go right back and do it again. The law doesn't do enough. These people if guilty should be punished very severely. What they do to children will stay with those kids the rest of their lives. The excuse that they were abused when they were children should make them more sympathetic to kids. These people are sick and should be dealt with in any manner that stops them from abusing children anymore.

While I don't agree with the actions I can fully understand the emotions behind it.... I want to cheer the uncles on but at the same time them taking the law into thier own hands is a crime..

I think the law should be envolved as having a record of abuse can help with restraining orders ect. in the future... The legal system is flawed but when used properly it can help..

While I have always been a law abiding individual, this type of situation i would chance. I know for a fact if anything were to have happened to my children when they were small or my grandchild there would be a line of people and I would be in the front of the line. You do what you have to do to protect an innocent child!!!
He deserved it, besides what is he going to do....go to the police and tell them he got his butt beat becausing he was abusing a child.
'AT A BOY" to the uncles.

i think they should've done it sooner. sometimes, they need to experience a little pain so they can see that getting beaten is no fun. lord knows the cops won't do it; they keep these ppl in protective custody as if they're someone special so u can't count on the prison population doing it; and if u get caught doing it urself u end up in jail like ur the criminal. i say a little old-fashioned family justice is often-times the best there is. ur cousin's uncles deserve the outstanding-citizens of the yr award.

Why does your cousin judge herself by her weight? And be having a little one, she matters less than the baby.

God speed to those who did a reality check on the boy. Your job now is to figure out escape routes and resources for them.

If there is another incident, especially after the family did its best, call the cops. Every time. You're better, and doing better by the baby, by being the protector.

I think that the family has every right to take action for someone who abuses their family. That guy got everything he deserved he shouldn't have abused her. That's wrong. Your uncles did the right thing.

It's good the family sticks together to protect the kids, that's what family is about. Obviously this clown needs help, if he is not willing to get it, call the cops. They know how to handle it.

Good for them. Granted I don't advocate violence..But she should have left him long ago, That was her child. If anyone ever lands a hand on my son. I"m gone. PERIOD.. No man is worth the pain and suffering of my flesh and blood.
