So the Russians were trying to take over America and the cold war saw paranoid attempts to control the media etc.
Now it's terror ...........
Isn't it convient your government keeps having enemies to fight and you never get to relax and think about the foreign policy and domestic economy without having to worry about spies and attacks?
If corperate expansionisim were the power behind all government decisons and Bush was no more than a 4yr conracted manager that will be replaced by another spokesman manager in 4-8yrs tell me what would be more helpfull than fear in society that the boogy man was after you.
If they could say blow up a building blame it on someone else you'd do pretty much anything to support thier goals if it were sold under the guise of protecting you right?
Has the US ever gone without an enemy for more than 15 yrs at a shot? Why do you suppose that is?

that's what happens when all of the inferior nations envy a country like America!! The enemies are self made.
Have you or are you able to answer a question that is posed? Why would you think anyone is jealous of the US they just want the US to stay in America - that does not sound like jealousy to me

Oh I get it.. the first part of your question is being facetious... Right, the USA claimed communism was a threat and had to be contained. They used that containment to justify hearings against some American communist, the Vietnam War and a lot of propaganda.
You are absolutely correct. It does appear that throughout most of our history, the politics of fear have been used to control and motivate the masses. Even as far back as the early 1800s when John Brown started the civil rights movement. Ppl feared blacks obtaining equality so much that an abolitionist senator was beaten up on the congressional floor once during a debate in congress.
If it wasn't fear against other countries, it has been fear against internal things such as the civil rights abuses during the 60s when blacks were sometimes murdered. Or how about now with the fear of gay couples obtaining equal rights.
I can say though that this war on terror on a global scale is matching the war against communism that we used to basically manipulate the majority of the world into doing away with that economic system.
I wouldn't say that it is paranoia as much as manipulation. Ppl here tend to believe what they are told or taught to believe. For example, my mother was born in 1946 and she lived through the anti-communism phase. She still literally cringes when she hears the word communism. Her brain is completely convinced it is EVIL with capital letters. LOL
So you see, it is all about controlling the masses with propaganda.

I have taken a class in American Conspiracy Theories in the US and yes, there has always been these theories in the USA. The country was founded on a conspiracy theory because they thought the King was going to take away their rights which was not true. He was just taxing them to pay for the Seven Years War (French and Indian War). During the French Revolution the New England Federalists were worried about the Rule of the Mob and hated Pro-French Jefferson. In the 1820's and 1830's the Anti-Masonic Party (whom I wrote a paper on) started because the Anti-Masons thought that Andrew Jackson and other Freemasons had too much power and it actually spawned the Anti-Masonic Party which was the USA's first third party. When the Irish were coming to the United States the Anglo-Saxon Protestants were worried about the Pope taking over the country. My wrists hurt so just to name a few more without description, Slave-Power Conspiracy, Pearl Harbour, Kennedy, and many, many, many, many more.

Worst President ever. Worst Administration ever. And they still have almost a year left to inflict even more damage. That is scary. This administration needs to be hauled into Congressional hearings and be held responsible for the criminal acts it has commited. These people should be put behind bars. Bush, Cheney, Rice, Rumsfeld, and all the rest. These people are a disgrace. Can you believe that they even have a 30% approval rating. What brain washed, deluded, right wing, neo-con, still believes in these guys. This has been a 7 year national nightmare.

The proletariet has no power, and cannot do anything. Why give them any chance to subvert what is important for the nation when they do not adequately have a picture of world politics?
