i need to know the best isp for lmy laptop that has ubuntu linux, it also has to be a dial up connection that is very cheap

For dialup, I use 550access.com. It's $5.50 a month and they have access numbers all over the US. Works well with Linux because there's no special program to download. Just dial in and you're all set.

OneTel were giving me a very good deal - you can get some excellent packages with cheap monthly rental and cheap calls to local/specific numbers.
You need to spend a long time on the phone before you will manage to get onto anybody to speak with there, though - they save money on staff....

Have a look for Flex-Surf, for example, which is quite a cheap one.

Fast4.net are meant to be cheap, and good service.

BISCit recently won the ISPA award for the best dial-up provider 2006, so it might be worth checking them out.

Your operating system does not matter. I do not know what the best ISP in the UK is but you should focus on price and reliability.
