You could attach attach eye-hooks into the wall beams on the walls you want to use to separate the room, and then put up a clothesline or something similar to one end, then attach a curtain, or shears, or even a shower curtain (if it looks nice!), or anything to that effect, and voila! Cheap, easy to coordinate with the rest of the furniture and you can do it yourself. Also, when you want to open up the room, all you have to do is slide the curtain off to one side.

Hang a drapery rod from the ceiling, and look around -- either pick up from an outlet store rod pocket drapes, or get some fabric and make your own. This is a very inexpensive way to divide a room on a very tight budget.

When I was in the Army, my roomie and I rigged up a nice shower curtain for privacy. It didn't do much for the noise, but we made it work....We had the wall locker dividing half and the curtain on the other half.

You can use big furniture items, like bookshelves, wardrobes and dressers to divide the room.

save those AOL and internet cd's you get in the mail! You can spray paint them different colors and use fishing line to attach them all together and then hang them from the ceiling!
(works well if you LOVE music!) you can decorate cd's anyway!

Move your furniture so that you create a couple of separate areas, which you then can further individualize with carpet, plants, lighting, books etc.
