I have two experiences to share with you. At a shopping mall once, a mother got mad at her son and slapped him hard across the face. I was shocked, and this must have registered on my face as I stared at her in disbelief. The mother whirled on me and shouted "what are you looking at?" That time, I went and reported the incident to a patrolling officer. Another time, at a street fair, a little boy was obviously overtired and over stuffed with junk food, and was fussing about a souvenir hat he'd gotten at the fair. The father angrily yanked it off the child's head, and threw it in the trash. He looked like he was ready to kill anyone who crossed him. I thought about fishing the hat out of the trash, catching up with the pair and handing it to the boy saying "I think you must have dropped this" but I was sure the guy would shoot or stab me.

Problem is, if people will mistreat their children in public, I hate to imagine what they do to them in the privacy of their home. I will never hesitate again to report any such incident I witness, or confront the person if necessary.

I would only if the parent was not controlling their own temper...yesterday I say a dad put his child on a bench and allow him to kick and scream and I thought that he was a great dad for doing that...he didnt give into his kid at all and didnt care if anyone thought ill of him..it's hard being a parent when so many people are so quick to judge you...that's what's wrong with our kids today they dont have enough consequences to their actions...they are allowed to get away with whatever they want...

No because you don't know the situation behind the action. If they were flat out abusing the child, I might mention it to a manager.

I often wonder when speaking sternly to one of my misbehaving spawn what people think when I threaten further action if they don't shape up. I wouldn't want someone complaining to me for disciplining my kids and teaching them how to act in public for their own safety.

Yes, if it was excessive. For example, I don't believe in spanking but if a parent was giving their kid a swat on the butt, I would not say anything. Anything more forceful than that I would say something. I am not generally bold like that but if they are willing to beat their kids in public, who knows what goes on at home??

Yes and I'm still not sure if it was the right thing to do. I was waiting tables and a customer kept hitting his kid for interrupting him... hard... while sitting in the bar section drinking rum and yelling at his wife. I told him that if he hit the kid one more time I was going to punch his fxxxing mouth loose.

Yes I would and yes I have. It is your duty as a citizen to speak up and defend the child if their parents actions are abusive or illegal.

no. i just walk away...unless there's serious abusing. but i've never seen anyone mistreating their child.
but this one time, a lady's son tripped, and she said "get da f**k up! and when he stood back up, she sorta slapped him on the back. that time, it was more of the lady's bussiness so i didnt do anything about it.

I dont know it depends on how they are mistreatingthem. like if they are getting a spanking, I wouldnt say anything because alot of kids today need their as* spanked... it's discipline and with that they wouldnt do the things they do now, the world would be even better.

No, I would mind my own business. I have 3 children which are grown now, so believe me, I know what that parent is going through.
