The park, the zoo, or a children's muesum (the kind where they have things geared to kids to play on.)

The beach if it is near enough (a pool or river if not)

The Park, the Beach (if you live close enough).

Near to us is a farm that has a petting section and play area. Costs about 50p for a bag of food and the kids love feeding the sheep etc.

Also, it depends what you call cheap and the ages of your kids. Yesterday my wife, myself and my 6 and 3 year old went to Gulliver's Kingdom in Warrington. Cost us £40 to get in but took a picnic with us. We thought that was cheap and it was a brilliant day.

Museums are also good, particularly if they have a kids section. If your kids have done projects etc then you could try to use this as a basis to visit.

Best of luck.

More info: what are their ages, and are they boys, girls, or both? Inside or outside activities, and what is the expected weather/temperature?

Just offhand, my dad used to take us to cemetaries where famous people were buried, and then we kind of got a history lesson (Annie Oakley, James Dean, etc) he would tell as a bonus. You can also take paper & crayons & do 'etchings' from interesting headstones: put the paper over the writing, flower, design, etc, and strip the paper off the crayon. Then rub the crayon on its side over the top of the paper. We actually had a blast with this. You'd be surprised how many interesting things you'll find in cemetaries. Some big ones even have websites, or you can call their offices & ask about famous people buried there, interesting sculptures, & trees & plants they have. They can tell you where to look.

If you are near the beach then hang out there that's always a lot of fun...if not I know there are a lot of things her in Southern California to do like the zoo...or we have a lot of parks and museums some are even free...I have five kids and I know its hard to find cheap stuff...sometimes we go to the swap meet...or I take them to the dollar theater it may be old movies but they only cost one buck a person...we also have a drive in theater as well...have fun

Give each child a task to do packing picnic basket , for example one makes the snackwiches, onother the cooldrink, cakes or pudding, cutlery etc.
A good place to go that the kids enjoy is an animal farm, where they are allowed to touch the animals, chase them a little and play with some, maybe a pony ride..etc..
Hope you have a place like that ...enjoy the day maam ...

I love taking kids to the Zoo. They're always amazed at every animal the see. After that, take them for Ice Cream. Have fun!

Take them to the park and pack a picnic :-) Bring a ball and some toys, they'll have a grand time.

Remember that the best toy for kids is often another human being :-)
