Many 'desktop replacement' Laptops run hot. There's a LOT of stuff in them that generates heat. And maxing out the memory ALSO generates heat. (But what are you gonna do? If you need a desktop replacement, you need a desktop replacement!)
My Toshiba A75 runs hot as well. Hot enough that you definitely don't want to place it on your lap. I have had some luck with cooler platforms. These are platforms that you rest the laptop on and they help keeping the LT cool..
Passive platforms ($20 - $30 USD) just tilt the LT up a bit in the back so air can circulate better. Active platforms ($30 - $50 USD) have fans in them that are powered from the USB port and actually draw the hot air away from the LT. I'm currently using an Antec active platform that works pretty well, though it is much noisier than I would like. I think I got it at a Circuit City store, maybe Best Buy, but one of the big electronics stores for sure. It works, not great, but definitely better than not using it. Your mileage may vary.

Check the dell web site that this laptop is not one with a battery that they are recalling. The reason that they are recalling laptops is that the batteries got very hot and will eitehr burn what ever it is that they are on or may even explode into flames.
The link to check is: https://www.dellbatteryprogram.com/Default.aspx
