That's just a smarmy political slogan for the easily convinced, to cover up the fact that the original reason was a lie.
We are in Iraq because the neocons in Bush's administration (Wolfowitz, Pearle, Cheney) have wanted to take out Saddam ever since they worked in Bush's fathers administration and the gulf war.
Current thinking was that the Iraqis would welcome us and allow us to put a base in Iraq to replace the one we took out of Saudi Arabia to ease things for the Saud royal family. Not to mention oil deals

Unfortunately we in the West are paying the price of what we have created.
Iraq was created by the West and then at a later time, when the Shah of Persia was booted out of Persia and Iran was formed and financed by the as was USSR the USA and Britain funded Iraq to fight a war against Iran, the man they supported in power was Saddam Hussein.
Subsequently when the USSR collapsed and the Cold War terminated, the fourth largest mobilised Army was in the hands of a sadistic despot who had been supplied and funded by the British and Americans, he also had oil and nobody to fight.
We went in in 1991 to take away this military threat, which we had created, Kuwait had virtually been set up as bait and allied forces invaded. But, can you catch your breath, the great leaders in all their wisdom did not dispose of Saddam, they left him in power.
Had they gone through and completed the job the first time there would have been a lot more people that supported the West alive, Saddam would not have killed them.
So we are there now because we did not finish the job the first time and more importantly because we put him in power in the first place.

That is the question isn't it. How many have to die or be maimed before we start doing a cost benefit ratio. American Dead - Iraqi freedom....hmmm...let me think...what's more important. Oh yeah, American lives are way more important.

If the Iraqis want freedom an democracy let them bleed for it and if they don't ...well then they don't deserve it do they??

Where were all these IED's when Saddam was in power?? I guess they just enjoy killing young Americans who are there to help them instead of despotic dictators.

I don't give a rip for Iraq and wish we would focus our energy on this country.

This question, reflects the normal liberal bias.
We went to Iraq, for several reasons.
First of all, so Bush could get rid of Saddam, since his dad didn't get to.
Secondly, was the weak link, between WMD, and terrorists.
Oh, and if you don't think there ever was WMD, there was....we should know....back in the 80s, we gave them to Saddam, to fight Iran. What else he got a hold on, we don't know for sure.
Thirdly, it was to liberate the people of Iraq, who were being tortured, and killed.
And lastly, to the opinion, it was to keep Saddam from paying Palestianian families for sending their kids off with bombs in backpacks.
Now, as for our soldiers dying over there, than over here, Lets look at this in another light. First of all, our soldiers are taught to fight using honorable, military methods. Insurgents, are taught to use cowardly, unconventional methods, designed to cause grief, and rile up the media, for people back home.
As well, we've handcuffed our own soldiers, on how we can fight, vs how we should fight.
To give a good point, when they strung up those dead contractors on the bridge in Fallujah....I would have nuked the town.....straight out, and then sent the message...if you want another city destroyed, do it again.....simply put, if you want to deal with terrorists....don't do it childishly.....do it, on terms they can't argue with.
When they realize we mean business, they learn only when getting their butts kicked.
When we quit pussy-footing around, trying to find one or two terrorists.....and start calling in the heavy weapons, will the insurgents realize, that it wasn't too bright to mess with us.

Well, your statement is what certain people believe to be true. Others say that we are fighting a war that is completely misguided and it is doing nothing for the "war on terror"

I beleive that no matter what move our current leaders made, a "war on terror" cannot be won, because terrorists will always be. It's as silly as a war on drugs.

The US and its allies can put a stop to the current terrorist organizations who are to blame for many attacks, but there will always be terrorists.

As for "when will it end," who is to say. It's up to the US government to decide.

Make the excuses and say what you want be my little girl will not have to see that if I have to spill my blood some where else to STOP IT!!!

We're in Iraq because it's an oil rich country. Now we have to stay there until we've sorted out the mess we've left them in, which will take God knows how long. I suspect we're all in it for the long haul now.

The Islamic fundamentalists will kill infidels where ever and when ever it pleases them.

Take a moment and reflect on just what our policy of inaction in the past to terrorist attacks has gotten us. (first world trade center bombing, embassy bombings, USS Cole bombing, 9/11.....) More terrorist attacks, that's what this pacifist diplomacy achieved.

This time we responded with military force - and, guess what? - no more terrorist attacks to date. Are you beginning to see a pattern here ?

If you don't like war that much why don't you go over their and solve their problems for the gov't. I bet they'd appreciate it. Not every country in the world thinks flowers and trees and peace and happiness unfortunately. And the middle east is the breeding ground of war, not much will be accomplished there without it.
