One does not necessarily mean others. Definitely check around for more and try to find HOW the snake got in so you can block that entrance. If you feel comfortable catching it yourself....do so CAREFULLY, and release it in the wild away from your house. OR, call animal control to catch it for you. The other response about baby snakes not be able to penetrate your skin is WRONG. It can most definitely bite you and babies tend not be to able to control their venom like adults and can actually inject MORE venom than an adult would. If you catch it on your own you need something LONG to grab it with so that it does not come into contact with any body parts. Snakes can bite right through a number of materials including rubber. They cannot penetrate heavy leather though. Good Luck. And please....do your best to get it out of you house safely without killing it.

Do not try to pick it up! Lay down a garbage can, or a very large bucket with a lid (open of course). Then use a broom with a long handle to push/guide the snake into the can. Snakes can strike up to 2/3 their body length, so the broom should be able to put more then enough distance between you and the animal. Tip up the can and place the lid on - snake captured safely.

The tip about using the Great Stuff will work, but make sure that's what you get. There are other expanding foam products available, but many of these are Latex, and will not last long. The Great Stuff however becomes rock solid.

unless you have a large hole near your home or an empty basement... I wouldn't worry too much on having more babies because this one was probably just chasing a cricket or something to eat. I'm just guessing he really didn't want to be in your house at all! to snakes we are large and dangerous they don't attack unless provoked so just take it in stride because they are allot more scared of getting stomped on than we are of them biting us they will always try to find a way out of a situation before becoming aggressive. you could try finding holes and sealing your foundation and also try not to leave doors and especially ground level windows open. there is a product called GREAT STUFF that is a foam that expands and is awesome at filling small and some larger cracks and gaps.

It's probably a lone stray. Just throw a towel over it and secure it safely, then carry it outside and put back into nature, some distance from your house. I doubt if there are anymore. If so, just repeat above. Small rattlesnakes have relatively little poison, and probably couldn't even bite through your skin anyway. So don't worry. But don't kill either. Just move them back to nature. Most snakes will "run" away from you anytime you approach them, so you have little to worry about. In my opinion, it is immoral and wrong to kill natures animals, when you have no good reason. They have a right to life too!

Call animal control. You do not want to mess with poisonous snakes.
