I mean in the context of a relationship.
I've heard and read some ignorant remarks lately about how two women or two men would be alike, not challenge each other, have tastes that are too similar, etc. I've even heard "jokes" about how men wouldn't pressure other men to go to the doctor or pick up their clothes.
Where would a straight person get this idea? I know y'all aren't in same-sex relationships, but are all the men or women you know alike? In any couple, one is neater or quieter than the other. Two women can still disagree on whether glass-topped tables are tacky; two men can still have different priorities about laundry.
I'm ranting a bit, but I'm also really curious as to where such ideas come from.

Sweetie, people, in general, are ignorant. They are also stereotypical, and most are closed-minded. Also, you always hear 'opposites attract'. If all men and all women were the same, wouldn't life be boring. I mean, you could just get with the first person you meet, seeing as how all of that gender would be just like her/him. RIGHT? We wouldnt have such a time of the relationship/dating/love thing. Don't pay any attention to the petty ignorance of people. Either ignore it or debate, don't try to understand it because there is no sense to it at all.

I don't know either. I'm straight, but a best friend from high school (male) is gay. I'm guessing that some people think that since it's the same sex, why not the same tastes, personality type, etc. Or they may just lump all gay people into one category and expect all of them to be alike. Who knows?

Everyone has their own idea of what they believe to be reality.
I do not believe these comments are a shot a gays, just a complete lack of understanding due to lack of experience inthis field.
Most humans do, however, have the ability to learn and change their minds, if only a gay person would just open up and make friends with him/her, or if the person runs into, and spends time with, someone who is gay.

They come from a lack of general education. That's why straight people also think that there has to be a "man" and a "woman" (separate sex roles) in a same-sex relationship.
