I have a friend that owns a lawnmower repair business. He currently wants me to build him a website that will allow his customers to login and view the status of ther repairs. I have no clue how to do this. can anyone point me in the right direction? I do have a little knowledge on website building. I currently use Dreamweaver 8 on most of my designs but this has totally stumped me!

There are several websites where you can learn to build your own website free.

W3schools, Webmonkey, Devguru have free simple tutorials for learning HTML, PHP, JavaScript and all features required to design a website . More information at-

Sounds like you need some help with program design and maybe not necessarily web development.

You'll want to first map out the application you are building. You'll have to also have a database where all this information is being stored, and you'll have to create two "Versions" of the same application. One for the customer, where they can't change anything, and the other "version" or view where the lawnmower service, can create a work order, status it and give it updates. If you're smart, you might want to suggest to your customer that (at a later time) he incorporate his repair orders into automatically ordering parts for him based on what they put into the work order/work tracking system, then incorporate all of that into billing and accounts receivable and customer tracking. But you probably don't want to get THAT fancy on your first out.

Hope that points you in the right direction at least. Can't really give you much more info with the general description you gave.

You need a server with ODBC
This Depends upon the Level of knowledge what type of database you will use
Generally starters use Access
the Shifted to Gaints
Think Access if the record is under 1 lacks
Don't use access if you consider security

Another Funda is you may use SQL

Better you should outsource your project and submitt it to your friend.if you are a newbie.Consider the Time/Money Ratio
