"It's all right, we told you what to dream." (Pink Floyd)
They talk about what American people want because they are TELLING the American people what they want. It is amazing how often people fall for this. Politicians have long known that if you say it loud enough and often enough, people will believe it. Doesn't matter if it's logical or reasonable or fair; it's repeated until they wear you down.

No one speaks for all of the American people, all of the time. Polititians say what they want to try to persuade others, either to the politician's point of view or to vote for the politician.
There are about 290 million people in the US. If there were 100 million different wants, it would not surprise me.

You must be confused. The politicians tell the American people what they want "To hear" in order to get elected. What planet are you from? That is why they are called politicians..... Poly from many and ticks ...... blood sucking parasitic insects.

There appears to be two camps...
Many want to sell / trade / their votes in exchange for government
benefits, welfare, contracts etc..
Many want what is best for the welfare of the nation as a whole..
It appears that the self-serving leeches are gaining ground..
