Amazingly enough, the info on such sites is almost *never* of any real use for protecting yourself. Quite often, an attack tool will appear on such a site, and knowing that the tool exists gives you almost no n=information on what to *do* about it, unless you do computer security for a *living* and know that if the attack tool is doing *this* and *that*, then it must be an exploit for a specific vulnerability patched by vendor patch so-and-so.

For the vast majority of people, it's simple:

1) Stay up-to-date on patches - Windows, IE< Office, Linux, whatever it is you run. Keep it updates.

2) If your system is one that's prone to viruses and spyware, run proper A/V and anti-spyware programs, and keep *them* updateed too.

3) Follow accepted guidelines for hardening your system - stuff like "Don't run as Administrator", and so on.

That's all you need to do, unless you *really* want to spend 40 or 050 hours a week obsessing about it. Yeah, it's a big time sink.
