It is my opinion that the media, US or otherwise, have forgotten their charge in bringing the news to the people. They bring their opinions these days.
CNN for example is extremely liberal and all most all of their coverage on the war in Iraq is anti US, pointing out every little thing that goes wrong and rarely ever mentioning any of the positive things being accomplished.
FOX is extremely conservative and tends to bash all the liberals and not reporting all of the facts either.
To get a better idea you have to watch both then disregard 90% of what both report then you get an idea of what is going on.
Today the media is self serving and in the business of getting ratings not reporting news.

First off, most people don't even bother with FOX & CNN. Most of us know that they only tell you the bad stuff, and they exaggerate all of that so it sounds like the world is ending if somebody stubs a toe. Very biased reporting on TV and they are at the head of the class.
Second, I live in NY and from what I saw on TV and read we all knew it was a fairly small group of people in Toronto that were affected by SARS, not some scene from a bad horror movie. Frankly a few hundred people sick from some "NEW" communicable disease in one city is a good reason not to go there if you don't have to. Who ever heard of SARS before then? Remember the pictures of everyone in masks on the street? People were scared of SARS.
Third, tourism by Americans is down all over, not just Canada. We are tired of being blamed for every evil in the world and every single thing done by our government. Ninety-nine percent of us are just everyday working people and don't want to have to worry whenever we travel outside of the US. Especially since it's probably on the one holiday we actually saved for and take every few years if we can even afford to.

Yes, many Americans question the credibility of our meida and other news reporting agencies, but many are lazy as well. They will not seek the information themselves. Instead they will just accept what's put in front of them in the newspapers and on television. The problem is that many of us (I am an American and proud of it) have a superiority complex. We have been raised to believe we are the best and cannot be challenged. Therefore, if our news reporting agencies provide information it must be correct. This view point needs to changed. Americans as a whole need to search for the greater truth and stop being so passive and accepting of what's placed in front of us. We are a great country, but a chain is only as strong as it's weakest link. If we continue to proceed with misinformation it will ultimately lead to our demise. We need to take an active role in what's going on in the world around us and by doing so we will place ourselves in a better position to take action when required. How can you act accordingly when you're not aware of the true issue/problem?

Any American with any sense at all takes what the news media says with a grain of salt. It is sad when we cant even trust our own news sources to tell us the truth but that's just the way it is. News medias here on biased on what the truth is therefore we should rely on sources not from the U.S.

We agree, and problem is that profit making is what now brings us and you the news, so every outlet is in completion to have the juicier story, pictures, pretty lady talking, and so on. It is disgusting alright, but big money runs America at the moment. Government has taken a back sit to money.
But, there is an election coming up which the people can if they vote for their interests put the big money out of the drivers seat and take control of the government of the people, by the people and for the people. (Notice, please. of the people, for the people and by the people not for the money, by the money and of the money)

Why do you think that there are now so many people against the war in Iraq? The media has twisted the truth against our president and our armed forces. The media is no longer un-biased and hasn't been for a long time. It's all about ratings and money, and not about reporting the truth anymore..........

I for one do not trust our media. Everything is exagerrated to extreme proportions and sessationalized beyond belief!! I tend to look at just the cold hard facts, numbers and statistics to get a realistic view of what is really going on. I wish I could say the same for all my fellow Americans, but sadly I cannot. Our media needs to take their responsibility much more seriously than they currently do. Americans depend on them to give us accurate info on what's going on, not over-exagerrated B. S.!

it is an american way of life to criticize and question the media. only by watching all of it and trying to find each outlet's bias can we get closer to some version of the truth.
