MY FRIEND COMES FROM A VERY WELL-OFF FAMILY. SHE NEVER TELLS HOW MUCH MONEY THEY HAVE, BUT IT'S OBVIOUS THEY HAVE A LOT. SHE HAS A CREDIT CARD AND CELL PHONE, BUT SHE'S NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR PAYING FOR THEM. I HAVE A PLATINUM CARD IN MY NAME, AND A CELL PHONE, BUT I HAVE TO PAY THEM OFF. ANYHOO...WE WERE TALKING THE OTHER DAY, AND SHE AS MAKING FUN OF PEOPLE WHO SHOP AT A CERTAIN DEPARTMENT STORE. SHE WAS SAYING THINGS LIKE, "IF THEY HAD MONEY, THEY WOULDN'T SHOP THERE." I WAS A LITTLE INSULTED, BECAUSE ME AND MY FAMILY SHOP THERE FOR CLOTHES. AND I WORKED THERE FOR THE SUMMER. AM I OVER-REACTING? WOULD ANYBODY ELSE FEEL A LITTLE INSULTED???

I would be a little insulted, too. Your friend seems snobby. It sounds like her parents raised her to be that way. Next time she makes such a comment, call her on it. Say, "hey, *I* shop there." She's probably young, and obviously hasn't had much time out in the real world yet, paying her own bills. She'll understand one day.

Just a little.

But itt depends really - she may have a valid point. For example, I bought suits from K&G, and they're beautiful cheap suits, and the darn things fell apart in three years. Now I go to Joseph A. Bank, and I pay $400 for a suit with a double-coupon discount and preferred membership, but the suits last FOREVER and they're on par with Armani. Are they good clothes and look good? Or are they just cheap?

I think it's perfectly understandable to feel a little insulted/ offended by that statement; I know I definitely would be. Also, I don't think you're over-reacting, you're only human.
Maybe you could tell her to be a little more conscious of others.

Why are you hanging out with this stuck up b****? Like, you eventually want to be the one paying her expensive credit card and cell phone bills?

You'd be about the thickest skinned person I've ever heard of if you weren't just a little offended gut level. But! Remember she's likely to learn not to judge people that way someday and try to let it go.

Maybe she is trying to sound important to cover her own insecurities. It is probably too late to call her out on this insult, but if it happens again let her know right away without getting angry, what the situation is.

youre right to feel insulted....your 'friend' obviously doesnt know the meaning of both respect or money, and how both have to be EARNED, you should point out to her the next time if its bothering you, and theres nothing to be embarresed about shopping in particular stores....at least you know the meaning of valuing something :-D....good luck man

Hi Ramal,
Yes, I would feel like you and I would tell her.
Tell her that not everyone has the luxury to have things handed to them.
You are much better off! Having to work for things and suffer makes us stronger and when we get something, we apprerciate it so much more!

Best wishes!!!!!

Your friend is a snob...and yes, I would be offended, then turn and smile and say things such as....Wow, you really gave that much for that? I have same thing, but didn't pay that for it. You just got suckered."....Then laugh.....it does work....Good luck
